Unemployment Resources:

Former federal employees may be eligible to apply for unemployment. 

  • It might be a good idea to compile any information regarding performance, should the Dept. of Labor have any questions.

Applying for Unemployment:

  • Applications go through the Idaho Department of Labor
  • Apply as soon as possible. The Dept. of Labor cannot backdate payments or applications.
  • Resources and the application can be found here on the Dept. of Labor website. Here is a link to their FAQ page, and the eligibility requirements.
  • The Idaho Dept. of Labor is available to answer any questions over the phone or online chat. Their call lines are most buy on Mondays. Assistance is also available in person. 

After an UI application is submitted:

  • There is a one week waiting period before payments go out.
  • Be sure to respond quickly to any communications or requests for more information and to follow all instructions from the DOL. The DOL can deny benefits if deadlines are not met. 
  • Weekly certification reports must be submitted to continue to receive benefits.
  • Be sure to report all sources of income, not just those related to a federal position. 

Unemployment Insurance Publications from Idaho Dept. of Labor

Health insurance: 

Depending on a person’s circumstances, they may be eligible for:

  • A Temporary Continuation of Coverage of FEHB for up to 18 months.
  • A Your Health Idaho marketplace Special Enrollment Period. Applying for coverage will determine if a person qualifies for premium assistance through an Advanced Premium Tax Credit or for Medicaid. Your Health Idaho can be reached online or at (855)944-3246.
  • Medicare, if over the age of 65. Senior Health Insurance Benefits Advisors through the Dept. of Insurance can be reached at (800)247-4422.

Idaho Department of Labor (IDOL) Unemployment Insurance Benefits

The Idaho Department of Labor offers resources for understanding unemployment insurance. The UI program helps those who have lost jobs through no fault of their own.  They also provide assistance in counseling, job search, job training, and resume building.

Health and Welfare covers a variety of assistance for those who qualify, including utility assistance, temporary assistance or families, SNAP, WIC, and Medicaid.
